On Christmas Eve 1983, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, moved by the holiday spirit, decided to deliver furniture to needy families in the area surrounding his store on I-45 North. Thirty years and hundreds of houses later, Gallery Furniture is proud to celebrate 30 years of Gallery Giveaway this December.
All this month, Gallery Furniture will surprise local individuals and families with an entire house filled with furniture based upon their needs described in letters submitted by family and friends. This year, each of the winning families will be hand selected from a panel of judges on Dec.9. In addition to the judging panel, select stories will be posted to the Gallery Furniture Facebook page so that fans may also take part in the selection process.
“Many Houstonians have faced tremendous hardships and Gallery Furniture is proud to continue the tradition of providing them a little comfort,” said owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale. “Gallery Furniture started this giveaway 30 years ago and has provided furniture for over 500 households. We continue to surprise families every season because of the true joy it brings.”
