Custom Stickley Furniture Examples

The Stickley Furniture Story began in 1900 when Gustav Stickley went into business with his brothers and burst into international prominence in the early 20th century with their Mission Oak designs. These were based on the notion that furniture should be an "honest" reaction against the fake joinery, unnecessary gaudiness, and shoddy workmanship of many of the pieces created in the early days of industrial furniture making and began an uncompromising promise that Stickley Furniture would always be "Als Ik Kan" an old Flemish phrase which means "to the best of my ability".

Like the rest of Stickley, Stickley Fine Upholstery is an expression of uncompromising quality, incomparable value and aesthetic excellence. From the kiln-dried, hardwood frames and the eight-way hand-knotted springs and mitered skirts to the exquisite detailing and design, there is a blend of beauty and comfort in the creation of these timeless designs.

The Stickley Kiln Dried Hardwood Frame Is The Base Upon Which All Stickley Upholstery Is Built Upon, You Won't Find Better In The World!

  • Double-dowelled 1 1/4 in kiln dried hardwood maple frames for exceptional durability.
  • Marshal Unit Backs provide a lifetime of support you can feel.
  • The artisans at Stickley Fine Upholstery still secure each high-carbon steel spring with 8 separate hand-tied knots (rather than simple loops) of high quality tying twine. This old-world process takes twice as long, but the results will last a lifetime.
  • The intricate picture frame seam at each corner of a Stickley fully mitered skirt eliminates extra layers of fabric and allows it to drape freely. Stickley skirts are fully lined so that you will never see staples or ragged edges beneath a Stickley skirt.
  • Center Matching is used for fabrics with a dominant center motif where the placement of a fabric's motif is in the center of each seat and back cushion. All multiple piece sectionals are center matched. Flow Matching allows the pattern to "flow", both horizontally and vertically through fabric placement across the surface of the piece. Flow matching requires the highest degree of skill and patience.

Beyond the beauty of Stickley fine tailoring and the durability of Stickley legendary construction, there is an exceptional comfort that has been carefully engineered into each of Stickley's fine upholstery and leather designs. Comfort is the most important and lasting impression and is the hallmark of the Stickley Upholstery Collection.
