How Quality Dining Tables Are Built to Last 100 Years

What makes a dining room table last a hundred years?

It starts with great wood with character. Solid maple, solid oak, solid cherry, walnut, hickory, made in the heartland of America. They harvest the trees, the Amish craftsmen do.

They replant 10, 20, 30 more trees to keep the forest going. Talk about sustainable forestry. Then comes proper kiln drying so the wood stays stable. They kiln-dry the wood in a kiln. It takes the humidity out of the wood, down to 3 or 4 percent humidity.

Strong joinery, like mortise-and-tenon construction, keeps everything tight.

Finally, experienced craftsmen take the time to build it correctly, not quickly.

That's why you'll still find Amish dining room tables that have been around since 1900.
