Mattress Mack Tells the Untold Story of How Gallery Furniture Started

The question is, “What was the first thing that came to my mind when I walked on this property?”

I probably thought, what the hell have I got myself into, as I have told the story many times, this was an abandoned model home park and the homeless people were living here, no plumbing, and it was the middle of April and it was just nasty everywhere.

So I thought, oh my goodness, but you know what? In the middle of the lake, you got to swim to the other side, so me and Linda just rolled up our sleeves.

We had some great people working here way back then, we went to work and started taking care of customers.

I put sofas outside and all these Houston furniture guys came by and say, you can't leave these sofas out here in the rain.

Well, when it rained, we covered them up in plastic, we just kept selling it, so I didn't know any better, I put my head down, put my ass up, I went to work, still here 45 years later.
