What is mortise and-enon joinery? "Mack, what in the world is mortise and tenon joinery?" It's one of the oldest and most trusted woodworking methods ever developed. One piece of frame has a carefully formed opening called the mortise. Another has the matching projection called the tenon.

Mortise-and-tenon construction takes more time, more skill, more attention, but that extra effort creates a stronger foundation.
