Why are hardwood chairs Made in America better than factory-made chairs made in China?
Mack, aren't all chairs basically the same? Nope, nope, nope. All baseball players aren't the same, not even close.
A factory worker may only see one small part of a chair before it moves down the assembly line in China, and then they're going to put it in the box, and it takes an hour and a half to put that chair together. It is particle board crap.
An Amish craftsman builds, fits, sands, and inspects the entire chair. That means every joint is checked, every spindle is aligned. The Amish use a process called steam bending. It's an art and craft all in itself. Steam bending means they boil the chair back pieces, these steam-bent pieces, until they're flexible like a piece of spaghetti, and then they fit them like that, and that chair is steam-bent to last a lifetime.
Every surface is then hand-sanded until it's smooth enough to make you stop and run your hand across it and feel the beauty of that solid wood. It's the difference between building thousands of chairs and building furniture like your family's name is going on it, because it is. That's why Amish chairs are admired all over the world.
Gloria, our service lady, has been here 20 years. We probably sold 25,000 Amish solid wood chairs since then. She said she's seen less than a handful come back with problems, and those problems get fixed and the customers leave here happy. Before, when we sold particle board chairs, every day customers came in mad as wet hens, holding a leg, an arm, or a back. It was horrible. That's why we sell solid wood chairs: because they last forever, because they're Made in America, because they support American jobs, and they support your family for generations.
