Why do Amish craftsmen sometimes sign underneath the table?

I've seen Amish craftsmen put the furniture maker's name underneath the table. Why? Because they're proud of what they do. It's like Leonardo da Vinci signing a great painting. Not quite that dramatic, but they're proud of what they build.
